Μουσείο

Oils, watercolours, aquarelles and acrylics produced by the 19th century artists of the School of Munich and by modern painters such as Theophilos and Tsarouchis, individual portraits, multifigured representations and various pictorial versions of the same theme; that of the Greek traditional costumes are exhibited together and can be seen "conversing" with the corresponding dress ensemble or accessories from the museum collection of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women. The paintings representing these costumes are, in themselves, works of high artistic quality; but apart from this, they also constitute valuable sources of information. How faithful, however, is the picture conveyed by these works to the actual model? How, and to what extent is the artist able to crystallize, within the borders of the picture frame, the aesthetic dimension of a costume, its various uses and functions, its evolution through the years? These are some of the questions dealt with in this exhibition entitled
